This course will help you understand autism and its typical characteristics (such as sensory sensitivities and difficulties with social communication). It will also give insight into the importance of an accurate diagnosis, particularly for women and girls, and provide examples of common comorbidities. You will be introduced to examples of best practice when taking a person-centred approach to supporting autistic individuals. This includes supporting them in exploring their identity and promoting positive behaviour. Finally, you will learn how to support autistic individuals in living healthy and fulfilled lives by promoting positive risk-taking, helping them to access services and facilities, and gaining and maintaining employment.
