Standard 12: Basic Life Support Overview

This course will provide you with an understanding of what basic life support is and the responsibilities you have in carrying it out. This includes instruction on how to carry out a primary survey (DR ABC), place an individual into the recovery position, perform CPR, and safely use an AED. You will also learn how to recognise and respond to an individual who is choking.

The Care Certificate e-Learning modules are designed to help you demonstrate knowledge and collect evidence required to complete the Care Certificate. These standards are the foundation of knowledge you need before you can work alone with the individuals you will be supporting. Some information included in this course has been sourced from Skills for Care.

This course has been written in conjunction with current guidance from the Resuscitation Council found in the 2021 Resuscitation Guidelines.
